Find answers to frequently asked questions about Confidently Mommin’ and Melissa Shulz, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. Learn more about parenting coaching services, approaches, and how to get started on your journey. FAQ Do you have an office near me? I’m as close as your computer! I work with all my clients via Zoom and my certification is international so I get to serve clients anywhere and everywhere. When do you observe my child? I actually don’t! I have worked in families homes for over twenty years and have found it is most effective to talk to the parent and hear their perspective on their child’s behavior. My clients are welcome to send me videos of their child but that’s usually not necessary. Should my partner be on the consultation call too? You are both welcome to be on the call! However, most people prefer to talk to me individually. My coaching program focuses on one parent. Each parent has different triggers, emotional reactions, and default responses, so I work with each parent individually to address your specific patterns with your child. All coaching sessions can be recorded and a transcript and summary is provided that can be shared with the partner and the partner is welcome to join occasional sessions to ensure everyone is on the same page. I offer a discount for couples that each purchase their own individual coaching package. Do you acccept insurance? No, my services are private pay only. My package was thoughtfully and intentionally created to bridge the gap between what medical insurance provides and what families actually need to change their child(ren)’s behavior. Is your coaching program the same as therapy No! I am not a licensed therapist and do not do therapy. I LOVE therapy and recommend it for all humans, and what I do is very different. While we will discuss some thoughts and emotions that are keeping you stuck, we will do this in a very intentional and step by step way with an emphasis on behavior change. I do not provide medical treatment for a mental health condition, instead I use a unique blend of mindset work and research-based behavioral strategies to change your behavior so that you can change your child’s behavior. Some of my clients are also in therapy to resolve childhood issues, trauma, treat a mental health condition, etc., and it works well to do both. How much does your coaching program cost? I share that information with you on the consultation call once I understand your unique family situation and what your needs are. Become the parent you want to be. Unlock your potential with expert guidance and collaborative insights. Melissa Schulz, MS, BCBA Behavior Expert and Parenting Coach Named “Best Parenting Coach in the United States in 2025” Yell Less, Smile More When nothing seems to work with your strong willed, sensitive, or neurodiverse child… finally understand the behavior and know exactly what to do next. Inside this coaching program you will learn the proven system that helps moms stop reacting, understand what is actually driving their child’s behavior, and create real lasting change at home. Join the Waitlist Be the first to be notified when enrollment opens! Join the Waitlist You love your child more than anything. But parenting them feels harder than you ever expected. You try to stay calm. Sometimes you succeed. But other times you hear yourself yelling and immediately feel awful. The meltdowns seem to come out of nowhere. The power struggles drain your energy. You repeat yourself over and over and somehow nothing changes. You read the books. You try the parenting strategies. You promise yourself tomorrow will be different. And yet the same cycle keeps happening. Part of you wonders: What am I missing? The truth is, many strong willed, highly sensitive, and neurodiverse kids do not respond to traditional parenting strategies. Not because you are doing something wrong. And not because your child is broken. It is because their nervous system and brain work differently. Until you understand why the behavior is happening, the strategies rarely work. Maybe you recognize some of this: Your child melts down over things that seem small Simple requests turn into arguments Screens cause constant battles You feel like you are walking on eggshells You want to stay calm but keep getting triggered If this sounds like your house lately, you are in the right place. Be the first to be notified when enrollment opens! Join the Waitlist If traditional parenting advice was going to work for your child, it would have worked by now. You have probably tried a lot already. Sticker charts. Consequences. Taking things away. Calm talks about behavior. Maybe some of those things helped a little. But the same power struggles keep showing up. The same meltdowns keep happening. The same patterns keep repeating. Not because you are inconsistent. Not because you are too soft. And not because your child is choosing to make life difficult. Most parenting strategies are designed for kids who can easily regulate their emotions and respond logically to consequences. Strong willed, highly sensitive, and neurodiverse kids often cannot. When their nervous system is overwhelmed, their brain is not in a place where lectures, punishments, or rewards actually change the behavior. So parents keep trying harder. More consequences. More rules. More reminders. But without understanding what is actually driving the behavior, the cycle keeps repeating. There’s a better way! When you understand what is actually driving your child’s behavior, everything starts to make more sense. Over the years of working with families, I kept noticing the same thing. Parents were trying incredibly hard. They were reading books, following parenting advice, and doing everything they could to help their kids succeed. But they were missing one critical piece. They were being given strategies without understanding the behavior first. And without that understanding, even good strategies often fall apart. That is why I began teaching parents a simple process that helps them slow down, understand what is really happening, and respond in a way that actually changes behavior. That process is what I now call the GUIDE Framework. Join Now! The GUIDE Framework A simple 5 step process for understanding why the behavior is happening and what to do about it. 1. Gather Data Start by clearly defining the behavior and noticing patterns. This helps you move from guessing about the problem to actually understanding what is happening. 2. Understand Your Triggers Most parents know they should stay calm, but no one teaches them how. You will learn how to regulate your own nervous system so you can respond instead of react. 3. Investigate the Cause Every behavior is serving a purpose. You will learn how to identify what is driving the behavior so you can address the real problem instead of just reacting to the symptoms. 4. Deter the Behavior Once we understand the cause, we focus on preventing the behavior before it starts and teaching the missing skills your child needs. 5. Encourage Appropriate Behavior Finally, we create a discipline plan that reinforces the behaviors you want to see while stopping the reinforcement of problem behaviors. Until you understand what is actually driving your child’s behavior, even good parenting strategies can fall apart. Once you start seeing behavior through this lens, things begin to make a lot more sense. And that is exactly what we focus on inside this program. "The GUIDE framework completely changed how I see my son’s behavior.” - Katie “For the first time I knew what to do instead of guessing.” - Rachel Introducing Confidently Mommin’ Together A three month coaching program designed to help moms of strong willed, highly sensitive, and neurodiverse kids finally break the cycle of big behaviors at home. Inside this program, we take the GUIDE framework and apply it to the real situations happening in your home. You will start to see your child’s behavior in a completely different way. Instead of constantly wondering what to try next, you will understand what is actually causing the behavior and how to respond in a way that helps things improve. Things that once felt confusing will start to make sense. And when things make sense, it becomes much easier to know what to do. Join the Waitlist! What the Program Looks Like Kickoff Week: Build Your First Behavior Plan We start the program with a focused kickoff week where we meet for five live calls in one week. Each day we walk through one step of the GUIDE framework together so you can apply it immediately to a behavior happening in your home. By the end of that first week, you will have a clear plan for addressing one specific behavior with your child. Instead of waiting months to see progress, many parents start experiencing clarity right away. Weekly Group Coaching Each week we meet live on Zoom for a group coaching call where we talk through the real situations happening in your home. | You can ask questions, get guidance on your child’s behavior, and learn from the experiences of other parents facing similar challenges. Many parents say this is where things really start to click because they realize they are not alone and begin seeing behavior through a completely different lens. Private 1:1 coaching sessions are also available if you ever want more individualized support (not included but available to purchase within the program at a discounted rate.) A Clear Step by Step Process Inside the program, you will learn how to apply the GUIDE framework to your child’s specific behaviors. Instead of guessing what strategy to try next, you will understand what is actually driving the behavior and how to respond in a way that helps things improve. A Library of Parenting Tools and Resources You will have access to an online portal filled with videos, trainings, and workbooks that walk you through each step of the process. When you join, you will receive your own account plus one additional partner account that you can share with your spouse, partner, nanny, or another caregiver. This makes it much easier for everyone supporting your child to learn the same approach and stay on the same page. A Community of Moms Who Get It You will be part of a private Facebook community of moms who truly understand what you are going through. This becomes a place where you can ask questions, share wins, and get encouragement between coaching calls. Many parents say this support alone makes a huge difference. Tools You Can Use in Real Life Throughout the program you will learn practical tools that help you: stay calmer in difficult moments reduce power struggles respond to meltdowns more effectively teach your child the skills they are missing These are tools you can start using right away. Many parents join this program feeling overwhelmed and unsure what to try next. Within a few weeks, they start seeing their child’s behavior in a completely different way. Safe and Sound Protocol Listening Sessions: Optional Nervous System Support for Moms Many parents know they need to stay calm in difficult moments, but no one teaches them how to actually support their nervous system so that calm becomes possible. For moms who want additional support with this, I offer Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) listening therapy as an optional add on. SSP is a simple research-based listening program designed to help your nervous system feel safer and more regulated just listening to music. Many parents find that as their nervous system becomes more regulated, it becomes much easier to stay calm, respond thoughtfully, and handle challenging moments with their child. If this feels like something that could support you, you can purchase access once you are inside the program. Join Now! I loved working with Melissa! Her knowledge, compassion and helpful tips came when we needed it the most with our deeply feeling child. She patiently answered all my questions and what ifs, and helped me see what I was missing. Melissa is so easy to talk to and personable. I am so glad to have her as a resource for what the next season of life brings! Kelly L. Melissa was a game changer in my Mom-Game for helping me build my relationship and understanding of my “Spicey Mama 2 Year Old”. Being a teacher and having a “Pretty Chill Little Dude” 5 year old, I thought (keyword thought) the second rodeo would be an easier one. Wrong. Having never experienced full blown tantrums in the grocery stores, backbreaking dance moves while trying to get Spicey Mama in her car seat, full on eye contact while slamming her head into the ground just for fun (? ), and total pet torture while smiling, I was pretty sure there was a switch on my child’s back that was incorrectly flipped from “Good” to (you know)… I cried nightly. My husband and I yelled daily. Still guilty about this one, but I asked God why my son didn’t have these issues, but my daughter did. I questioned all of my parenting and teaching philosophies and what we did wrong. Then came: Melissa. Melissa was my fresh breath of air. Melissa reminded me of what it means to be TWO. She brought me into a two year old’s understanding of what life is. She gave me perspective. After I gained a new understanding of what my toddler was seeing and feeling, we then strategized. We pinpointed specific issues needing to work on as a family and with S.M., and game planned. This is what we needed. There was no “quick fix” for my daughter, but long term intensive, loving attention and structured language to support the goals I set with Melissa. This was all done in ONE session! Parents, if you are in a place where you are struggling with parenting, want to set a goal, need a new perspective on how tiny humans work, or just need a fellow parent to laugh/cry/feel frustrated/let it out with, Melissa is the gal for the gig! I've always dreaded my alone time with him. He has been a difficult child from day one for me, until the last few months he’s really turning a corner! My son was having 5-6 tantrums a day that would last for up to an hour of full blown screaming, crying, foaming at the mouth, hitting, kicking, biting, and throwing things. I had no idea what the right reaction was. I tried staying calm, I tried yelling back, time-out, ignoring him, etc. I was losing my mind. I’m now enjoying my sweet child! Our days aren’t perfect, but they are so much better lately. All to say I highly recommend Melissa! Thank you so much for the months of parent coaching. It has SO paid off! – Lyndee S.

I then worked at a school for children with emotional disturbances, at first in the classroom and later as the Director of Behavioral Services overseeing their program for students with moderate to severe autism. I later served as the Director of Behavioral Services at a large organization serving children and adults with autism in both school and group home settings. In 2009, I founded my first company, which provided in-home behavioral health (ABA) therapy for children with autism. The company grew to have 75 employees and consistently won awards for being one of the best companies to work for in the nation, and providing the highest quality ABA services in the area. I founded Confidently Mommin’ in 2020 to serve families as a Parenting Coach. Using my extensive education and background, I use proven processes to help parents know how to calmly and confidently manage any and all of their child’s challenging behaviors and enjoy their family time. I have been a guest lecturer at Azusa Pacific University and San Jose State University and have supervised BCBA candidates internationally. I am a popular speaker on parenting and behavioral strategies. More About My Personal Life My husband Brian and I have been married for 17 years. We have 3 hilarious, wonderful, and exhausting children and a sweet pit bull named Goose. I am very involved in my church and serve as a leader in the mom’s ministry. I volunteer as a Girl Scout Troop Leader for my daughter’s troop. I am a runner and love to be outdoors, read, and spend time with friends and family. I am obsessed with personal development and growth. I never miss an Office Ladies Podcast or a Marvel movie, and would live at Disneyland if I could. Become the parent you want to be.
